This year’s Newport Folk Festival celebrated 65 years with a dynamic concoction of the festivals golden standards and a new vision.
Standout performances included a Joan Baez poetry reading, Hozier, Conan O’Brien, and Gillian Welch all closed out the fest on their respective days, Orville Peck brought the Stampede, The Dropkick Murphys attempted a circle pit, and Black Pumas jumped the barricade, and Mina’s Katie Gavin played a beautiful solo set on the most intimate of stages (ran in bicycle power).
The fest also boasted surprise guests and performances. These included a surprise set from Beck, run ins from actor John C Reilly, Nathaniel Rateliff, and Jack White, and Mavis Staples being carted around in a gold cart with a sign that read, “Mavis is Brat,” which we can all get behind.
See you next year!
